Nike Missile Site, Everglades FL

DAY #205, 239 to go!
As we were contemplating a trip to Cuba, it was such a cool and relevant experience to visit the decommissioned Nike Missile Site in the Everglades. Not being super well educated on the event myself (or just my failing memory), it was the perfect opportunity for the family to watch an educational video for movie night (much to their dismay). You gotta love the vast number of online educational resources available these days! We learned a lot about Russia’s presence in Cuba, the leaders of Cuba, and our own government’s impact on the country. It is a complex historical event that took place over the period of a just a few short days. It all became incredibly relevant as soon as we stepped foot on Cuba soil… but more on that in the Cuba post!

Lane cannot resist the urge to press the “red” launch button. Such a simple act/switch, that could have dramatically changed the state of the world had it been pressed.
